Sand Blasting / Etching

Sandblasted etched glass has a cool sophisticated elegance, and dramatic effects can be achieved. The design or background can be exposed depending on the function of the glass. You can add privacy, yet bring in more natural light, whilst adding a rich custom look to your home.

Sandblasting is a great way to have designs on both mirrors and clear glass. Designs can range from a simple border to a full decorative feature.

Safety Glass

Laminated Safety Glass

Laminated Safety Glass is ideal for providing both impact resistance and security since it may break on impact but the glass is held in place thus preventing injury or intrusion. Laminated Safety Glass is produced by combining two or more sheets of glass with one or more plastic interlayer to obtain increasing degrees of security. The performance of Laminated Safety Glass can therefore be varied by changing the number and thickness of each of the glass panes and the polyvinylbutaryl (PVB) interlayers to give the specifier a wide choice of products depending on application, whether it be for safety or security, noise control, solar control, UV screening, bullet and blast resistance or privacy and

decoration. Noise control can be further enhanced using specially developed CIP interlayers.

Protection from vandalism and burglary

  • Laminate resists penetration – glass may break but interlayer retains overall integrity and continues to act as a barrier.
  • Protects against break-ins by preventing or slowing down burglary attempts.
  • Protects against vandalism and brief attacks using easily available objects.
  • Withstands repeated blows from heavy objects such as bricks, hammers, crowbars and similar hand held heavy objects.
  • Depending on the extent of the attack the product remains integral and protects the premises adequately and limits penetration whilst awaiting replacement, offering: - protection from secondary looting – damage from the wind and weather – safety while broken, reducing personal injury – often no need for 'boarding up'
  • Typical applications include buildings or shops displaying valuable goods, banks, building societies, post offices, security glazing in hospitals and prisons, museum display cases etc.
  • Available in 7.5 to 19.5mm standard thicknesses.
  • The correct grade and thickness specified for the application depends on the value of goods on   display, degree of risk, estimated time needed by thieves to break in and enter.
  • Conforms to BS 6206: 1981 Class A.

Toughened Glass

Toughened Safety Glass is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. Because of its increased strength, toughened glass allows architects and builders far greater scope in their use of glass in buildings. It meets world-wide safety standards for glass subjected to accidental human impact at the highest level of severity. Wherever the benefits of ordinary glass need to be combined with extra strength, safety or heat resistance, toughened glass can offer a complete and proven solution.

Toughened glass is advantageous, such as structural applications, barriers and roof glazing. Toughened glass is manufactured by subjecting final size, edgeworked panes of glass to a heating and cooling treatment whereby high compressive stresses are set up at the surfaces with balancing tensile stresses in the centre. The high compressive surface stresses give the toughened glass its increased strength.

Benefits

Offers a complete and proven solution for impact safety and strength;

    • Based on over 60 years of worldwide manufacturing experience.
    • Up to 5 times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness.
    • Conforms to the requirements of BS 6206: 1981 Class A as well as European Standard BS EN 12600 and many worldwide safety standards.
    • Ideal for use in countless applications, from windows to barriers, interior design, curtain walling etc.
    • When broken, toughened glass shatters into small, blunt-edged fragments which reduce the risk of personal injury.

Secondary Glazing System

The Selectaglaze range of secondary glazing is the result of years of research and development. Our products are carefully designed and fully tested to provide effective noise insulation, thermal and draught insulation and enhanced security. The comprehensive range allows sympathetic treatment of almost any style of window.

Noise insulation  Significant protection against noise pollution from road traffic, aircraft and the 24 hour society. Retains noise in pubs, clubs and concert venues.
Energy saving  Major improvements in thermal insulation will save energy and reduce fuel bills.
Draught proofing  Improves comfort and reduces the level of airborne dust getting into a building.
Security   Provides a protective barrier against intruders and blast.

Horizontal sliding secondary glazing, available with two or more panels, are extremely versatile. Sashes slide within the frame allowing easy access to the outer windows without interfering with curtains, blinds or ceiling bulkheads. Units can be linked with coupling sections allowing both large and ribbon windows to be successfully treated. Secondary Glazing System
Vertical sliding units are ideal for treating traditional sash windows and are particularly suited to the refurbishment and upgrade of historic buildings. The sliding sashes are attached to spring balances and are easily opened to any position for ventilation. Secondary Glazing System
Hinged casement windows allow full and easy access to the outer window. They are neat and unobtrusive with no transoms or mullions to impede the view and will generally provide higher levels of security. This style of secondary glazing is appropriate for doors but there must be clearance for pelmets, curtains and ceiling bulkheads. Secondary Glazing System

Lift out units offer a practical treatment for windows which are rarely used or as side or over lights in combination with other windows. The glazed panel is lifted out of the frame when access is needed for cleaning or maintenance.

Secondary Glazing System
Fixed panels are generally used as side or over lights in combination with other windows and are also extensively used to treat curved windows. They should never be applied to a window requiring access for escape purposes. They are also used as observation windows in laboratories, clean rooms, control rooms and recording studios.
